What do we mean by regenerative?

In our context regenerative means food or other items produced in a way that, over the long term, improves the health of the land rather than damaging it. The production system will support:

  • Biodiversity

  • Carbon sequestration

  • Water quality

  • Local economies

  • Food heritage and tradition

It won't involve:

  • Continuous extraction of resources

  • Significant environmental pollution

  • Excessively long supply chains

  • Huge amounts of waste

  • Labour rights violations

Food and other items produced in the UK under organic systems or made from organic ingredients/raw materials will mostly fit our definition of regenerative.

Regenerative at our events

On the ground at our events regenerative will look like market gardeners promoting their fresh organic fruit and vegetables, bakers and makers displaying their wonderful organic creations, artisans selling carefully crafted clothing made from organic natural fibres, as well as street food vendors serving up dishes made from locally sourced organic food.

Not all producers and products will be certified organic (most will be) but all will have a clear set of principles in place to show how they are regenerating their land with an agroecological approach. If stallholders are secondary producers they will know exactly the provenance of their ingredients/raw materials and how they are regenerative, if not organic.
